''I gave your Sheba book to the last living descendant of the Ethiopian emperor Haile Selassie, Prince Asfa Wossen Asserate, who lives in Germany and is a Christian. He loved it!!!' (Karoline Kuhn at Gerth Medien, publisher of the German edition) | |||

Against all odds Makeda, daughter of an obscure African chieftain, is chosen as Queen of all Sheba. Recognising her own inexperience, yet desperately wanting to address Sheba's appalling and deep-rooted social injustice, she is persuaded by her cousin Tamrin, a wealthy merchant and narrator of the novel, to visit Solomon, King of Israel, to discover how he governs his kingdom.
She is hugely impressed by Israel's prosperity, by the wisdom and integrity with which Solomon rules, and by the Hebrew religion. However, all is not as it seems. Solomon, trapped in a loveless marriage, is entranced by the beautiful and intelligent African princess. While she returns to her homeland, determined to put what she has learned into practice, the splendid King of Israel starts to lose his grip on his kingdom and on himself. 'The last Queen of Sheba' is available online from Amazon at £5.65 for new copies. Used copies generally from around £1.00. Kindle edition £3.23. You may also find it in Christian bookshops or in good secular bookshops. It is also currently available in German. |
